I teach history at the University of Oxford, and write about the social, cultural, and intellectual history of the English-speaking world since 1500.

My first book is The Origins of Sex: A History of the First Sexual Revolution (2012), published by Penguin and Oxford University Press in English, by Yilin Press in Chinese, Klett-Cotta Verlag in German, Editora Globo in Portuguese, and Fandango Libri in Italian.
